Beginner’s Guide to Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island is an island located in the Visayan Sea, Philippines. It is situated to the west of the northern end of Cebu Island, across the Tañon Strait. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 125,726.

Bantayan Island is Divided into Three Municipalities

1. Bantayan (Which is the largest Municipality, covering the central part)
2. Madridejos (Covering the northern portion)
3. Santa Fe (Covering the eastern portion)

The island area is 110.71 square kilometers (42.75 mi). The island is mostly covered with coconut palms; the elevation is mostly below 30 meters (100 ft), with only one taller hill, at 60 meters (200 ft), in Barangay Atop-atop.

How to get to Bantayan Island?

Bantayan Island has its own facility of the airfield but no commercial airline, fly to the island since 2011 which makes Mactan Metropolis Multinational Airdrome.

Metro Cebu to Hagnaya Port

Cebu is the main entryway to Bantayan Island. Starting from the city, ride a bus to Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT) going to Hagnaya Port in the town of San Remigio. Travel time is 3 hours and fare is ₱200.00 for the aircon bus. There’s a bus that leaves Cebu as early as 5 AM, with the last trip at around 5 PM daily.

In Hagnaya Port, get a public ferry to Sta. Fe. The ferry ride is approximately 1 hour for ₱200.00. The ferry departs Hagnaya Port to Sta. Fe as early as 7 AM with the last trip at around 5 PM every day.
