Plaza Independencia sits strategically between Fort San Pedro and Casa del Gobierno de Visayas, close to the downtown Cebu pier area. You’ll easily spot this tourist destination as the road from Plaza seamlessly connects to SRP when traveling to SRP (South Road Properties).
The plaza is a popular hangout for many local Cebuanos and tourists living in the city. During my frequent visits, I’ve noticed that Plaza Independencia is a favorite among Korean tourists. This spot tends to get quite busy on weekends, especially on Sundays. It boasts excellent accessibility, being just a 5-minute stroll from the Sto. NiƱo Cathedral Churches and a 5-10 minute walk from the Cross of Magellan.
An obelisk dedicated to the memory of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the first Spanish governor-general of the Philippines, can also be seen in the area.
